Get Good Sleep to Build Those Muscles

One major way that strength training leaves cardiovascular (CV) lagging behind is the fact that you can keep burning fat and building muscles long after your workout. As you finish a CV workout your body will also stop burning off the calories. (This is not to say that CV workouts are not important, they are for a healthy, strong heart.) In fact when we are slogging through our workouts we are not building up muscles we are actually tearing them, yep that’s right a tear. Then it’s during rest a… Continue

A Match Made in K-mart

Sam was a disgruntled K-mart manager going through a mid-life crisis. Nancy was a feminist social worker who was unaware that the 60s were over. From their meeting at a modest bastion of retail America, they were destined to change their views on marriage and music. Nancy just finished shopping for the battered women at the halfway house where she volunteered. The women were comprised of drug addicts, teenage runaways, and shoplifters. The irony wasn't lost on her as the shoplifting alarm went… Continue

Scenes of San Diego

Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me to go with her to San Diego, which is about 2 hours south of Los Angeles.

Because we left early and got back rather late, I was unable to do my usual Tuesday walk, so today, instead of Wordless Wednesday Walkers, I’m presenting “Scenes of San Diego”

Strength training: Get stronger, leaner and healthier

From the Mayo Clinic: Strength training is an important part of an overall fitness program. Here's what strength training can do for you — and how to get started. You know exercise is good for you. You look for ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine, and you set aside time for longer workouts at least a few times a week. But if your aerobic workouts aren't balanced by a proper dose of strengt… Continue

Hello World: New Vlog

New Vlog: The Moment Previously I have mentioned that the third vlog will be about shadows. That vlog is ready to roll nonetheless I have decided to skip its turn to give a chance to this vlog first, which is called The Moment. Unlike the previous two, The Moment is a full animation vlog. The Moment has a direct message but it is also quite full with metaphors. It took two weeks to produce this animation video. I believe this vlog has a lot of space for improvement especially the audio… Continue

Restaurants That Lack Calorie Counts Now Face Fines

From the New York Times: By JAMES BARRON Published: July 19, 2008 Mark Loersch, who teaches nutrition to high school students, noticed something in a McDonald’s restaurant on West 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan that he had not seen back home in Onalaska, Wis.: calorie counts posted next to the prices. A Big Mac has 540 calories, the sign said. “It’s a good idea,” Mr. Loersch said, adding that knowing how ma… Continue

Metabolism: The Golden Key to Fat Burning

What is metabolism? How does it help me burn fat? Are there such things as a slow and fast metabolism? How can I speed up my metabolism? How can I keep my metabolism burning fat throughout the day? These are the main questions that I kept asking myself when I started to educate myself about fat blasting, I knew that metabolism was something that helped burn stored energy. I wondered why my metabolism wasn’t doing its job! This is what I found out; What is metabolism? Basically metabol… Continue

Top Ten Weight Loss Methods; THAT SUCK!

First lets clear up what most of these weight loss methods have in common; they all use the same lie to sell their diets (which has given the word ‘diet’ a bad name). Their lie is hidden and we are blinded by their use of the words “weight loss”. Their deception and our ignorance go hand-in-hand for this to work. Most of these weight loss methods actually do help you to lose weight, but that’s not what you want. What you want is fat loss not weight loss! Weight loss can occur in many ways; los… Continue

Fear of Failing Found Flawed

In our lives we are afraid of many things, and we each have our way of dealing with them. But I have a theory about fear. You see fear is really a lie. Let me show you the evidence that I found through my extensive investigation. It first started when I was in school; I was not the brightest student. I was usually a member of the ‘slow group’ and was not as far on as the others. In that group were the usual suspects – “I can’t do it miss”, It’s too difficult for me”, or “Can we do somet… Continue

Goal Setting: The SMARTER Principle

Here is something that I got on my PT Dip course that I want to share with you. I have used this for my new goal renewal. I would like to introduce you to the SMARTER principle; • Specific • Measurable • Achievable • Responsible • Targeted • Empowering • Revisable SPECIFIC The goal should be specific. Wanting to “lose 4kg of fat in 2 months” is a specific goal, but wanting to “loose some weight”, or “put on some muscle” is not a specific goal. MEASURABLE Your goal should be measura… Continue
