POLL QUESTION: How many servings of Fruits and Vegetables did you eat today?

We all know the importance of eating a healthy diet, which includes plenty of fruits and vegetables. Harvard recommends 9 servings per day. Are you following the recommendations?

Did the results surprise you? Do you plan on increasing or decreasing your fruit and vegetable consumption? Let's discuss.............

Has anyone cast a vote or is the poll showing only my vote?

Anyway, I usually have an apple and a banana a day during the week. I added some pieces of cantaloupe today. On the weekends, I make smoothies with 2-3 fruits... all from scratch!

As for veggies... being vegetarian I probably get more than the recommended servings... raw and cooked always besides some good carbohydrates ;=)

I eat 5-9 servings a day (I have two for breakfast along with a grain) and sometimes more than 9. The results from Harvard don't surprise me. FYI ... I read something helpful yesterday that might help people to get their kids to eat more veggies. One women has the one bite rule. Her children have to sample each veggie with one bite. This introduces different veggies and soon they are used to the taste.

thanks for sharing the one bite rule.

For me, having a large salad most days, plus fruit at breakfast and for a snack, already puts me in the 6-8 category. My dinner usually consists of more than one vegetable................:)

When I eat my salad I get plenty, when I skip it, it's down in the 0-2 because of the fruit. I know I have to increase my numbers or start really looking at what I eat because sometimes I have vegetable or fruit and not count it because it's mixed in something. This is good...

I'm impressed by how well respondents on this site do! I bet a survey in the general population would be a lot less heartening. I eat plenty of fruits and veggies but would like to get more variety. My biggest problem is that my husband is a bit pickier than I am when it comes to trying new foods. I think I'm going to have to try the "one bite rule" Meg Wolff mentions with him!

A good reason to keep a food journal.

I'm running a similar poll on my website - the results aren't very good so far. Over 70% of people eat less than the recommended 5 a day.

I love my fruit and veggies though and can quite happily munch my way through a bag of carrot sticks or grapes as a snack.

WOW! If someone had 12 or more they might be poopin' ALL day! HA!

Let's see, I took my Juice Plus supplements which supposedly count as a bunch. I ate a banana yesterday, a handful of grapes and a few strawberries. A veggie burger for lunch (actual gardenburger with veggies), baby corn and then pizza with tomato sauce and green pepper for dinner. Usually have more veggies but last night was family pizza night.

LOL.............You'd be surprised at how fast they add up. 1 cup of lettuce is a serving, and when people eat a salad, how many actually only eat 1 cup?

Hi, if you like Juice Plus, I think you would really love The Feast by Uri. See my posting below if interested.

I do not have much in the fruit side and probably not enough vegetables either. Nice reminder!

That's what I thought--@ 28 weeks sounds like it may be a tough choice for women to "break" the cycle, though. Thanks for posting this very important information which, I'm sure, will benefit women for something to be aware of.

Interesting. Isn't it fairly typical for most pregnant women to gain weight anyway though?
