Iowa Avenue

Are you over 35? Are you experiencing transitions in your life? How are you handling them? I am finding that I am gravitating to other women who are going through the same things that I am as I approach turning 50.

I would love for this discussion to be a place to share what you are experiencing in the second half of life. Tell us your story. I'm sure others will be encouraged and inspired when they read it and are able to say, "I'm not the only one going through that!"

Great topic for discussion. I think a group should be created where we can all share our own stories and comment and give feedback to others, as well.

As most of us are baby boomers we are approaching the last part of our lives.

Well... I am a bit older than 50 now. I went through many transitions already. First, it was my body that starting aging faster than my mind. Because of menopause, I feel irritable sometimes. Then, my metabolism slowed down a bit. And now I am in the process to live alone with my husband again. We haven't been like this for almost thirty years now... I get emotional too. My daughter just left and my son will move out by the beginning of August. I miss my children being at home but it is part of the life. I will have to move to a cheaper and smaller place with him. Although they live close to me, it will be a big change!

Susan, I am right behind you! My oldest daughter will be a Sophomore in college this fall. My next one is going to be a Junior in high school and my "baby boy" is about to be a Freshman. Time is literally flying! I am enjoying the relationships I have with my children as they get older, and at the same time morn the ones we had when they were little. I occasionally feel like a bundle of emotions and are overwhelmed by them at times.

I'm glad to hear you will get to be near your children. That is one of the things I struggle with, since mine haven't gotten to that point yet. I just can't imagine what it would be like if they were hundreds of miles away!

One thing that is helpful to me is to finding new ways to occupy my time. I began a new part-time job a few months ago and have found it to be a challenge, but at the same time very exciting! Next month I am joining a HealthQuest team, which is a program all about getting healthy and fit from the inside out. There are so many opportunities out there just waiting for us to grab and embrace! You may enjoy taking a look at what the company I work for is doing. It is actually for people just like you and me who are in that "second half of life" and wanting to make it even better than the first!

Iowa Avenue is a great place to find encouragement and inspiration. I do hope you and your husband will find contentment in seeing your children grow up and move on to their life paths. I know it's easier said than done!

Julie, thank you for your support! I'm so happy & thrilled to belong to this place where people talk about everything and live a healthy life!

I need to find a job as well. I left my job to start my own business, which didn't work, one year an a half ago. Now, it is difficult to go back especially with this weak economy. But I am busy all the time with different projects at home while looking for jobs. Now, I am in the process of scanning all my family paper pictures to convert them to digital. It is a huge project!

My husband and I enjoy being by ourselves. We have fun together... and we enjoy seeing our children happy and healthy. That's the most important thing!

Thanks again!
