I am tired of pain. I have bursitis in both heels right now. I am having problem with my right knee (stiff and sore). Bursitis/tendinitis in my right ankle has been going on for 2 years now. Bursitis in left ankle has been going on for 3-6 months. Knee problems have been off and on ever since I started running. Knee just feels "tight" stiff and has low level pain. All of the pains go away when running but return later.
I have been to the doctor for right ankle and he prescribed stretching and icing. Neither of which seemed to help. Bicycling did seem to help. I have not been to the doctor for the rest because he will only me for one problem at a time. I am convinced this is a system problem and examining each in isolation will not solve.
All the reading that I have done says stretching, compression, ice and motion are best cues. The doctor I went to treats Olympic athletes so he has a very good reputation. Anyone else have anything better? Go to a different doctor?

This supplement is recommended by physicians. It contains glucosamine and chondroitin which may reduce the pain and stiffness. You will need my sponsor/health coach number if you order: 30020661

Thanks, good suggestion. Unfortuantly I have been using Glucosamine/chondroitin for many years now. Not sure that I ever notice any differene but I continue to use it.

Unfortunately, running is the problem here. It's very hard for joints, and the body. You're going to have to figure out a way to lessen the impact it has on your body--or have to choose an alternative cardio sports. I'm a swimmer, and about ten years ago I started to jog and sprint, and it severely screwed up my knee, which required arthroscopic surgery. It was a very bad situation and since then I won't ever run again.

I have been taking glucosamine for about 4 months. It has helped my Bursitis tremendously.
I hope you are feeling better! :-)

Ended up being a meniscus tear in the knee. Only one knee is having a problem. It is the knee that had 25 stiches in it at 17 years old sliding from glass in the dirt while into home plate. Had orthoscopic surgery last week. My first bike ride was yesterday. Looking forward to getting back into the groove, but have to move the triathalon goals to next year. Thanks to all for the feedback.

Arthritic spurs don’t always cause pain. Nevertheless, “arthritis,” has become a virtual synonym for joint pain, applied by the public and throughout the healthcare community. A diagnosis of arthritis is often based on no more evidence than your statement that an elbow, shoulder, or knee hurts. that trigger points may be a contributing cause of true arthritis. The reason for this is that muscles afflicted with trigger points become shortened and stiff.

When this happens, even normal movement puts undue strain on muscle attachments at the joints, which can eventually result in damage to connective tissue and distortion of the joints themselves. Joint popping is evidence that muscles shortened by trigger points are partially disarticulating the joint.

Trigger point therapy is the most appropriate treatment for shoulder, hip, and knee joint pain, even when genuine arthritic changes have occurred, because it goes to the source of the problem. Deactivation of trigger points stops the pain and allows the muscles to lengthen, thereby relieving strain on the joints.
pain killers and stretchng can be bad therapy . so please consult a doctor who knows know wel about trigger points .or tryin getting a book on it for self treatment . and start doing it . even am having same complaint as u . am trying trying this solution . its effective .

Hello John,

I have also been suffering from Bursitis due to running but mine is in my right hip. My regular doctor gave me motrin 800 and a muscle relaxor flexerol and told me if I stopped running it would go away. Well no such luck, I would say it bothered me less but never went away. It has been a year and a half and I am back to running again. I have been seeing a physical therapy /chiropractor that specializes in running injurys. This of course is "out of network" for my insurance and gets expensive but I feel like it is worth it. They have been doing "stem cell" on me which is like an electric acupuncture and deep tissue massage in my hip areas and IT band. Although both treatments are painful/uncomfortable I am finally seeing an improvement. I also do at home streching now (a pain) and take epsom salt baths to get relief. Try it, you never know!

John,

You could also try aqua jogging a few times a week instead of road work. You can put your I-pod in a plasic baggie and tape it to your headphones on top of your head. Or bring a friend with you, check out your local YMCA.

Rolling on a foam roller can help too but a deep tissue will really get in there.
