For those who have kids

OK, I know this is a risky question and most people will answer "yes." But I was watching my daughters do their homework the other night, as they've done nearly every waking hour since 6th Grade, it seems. It got me to thinking, "They sure work a lot harder at school than I at their age (and their grades show it). In fact, they're turning out a better than I was at that age." I got decent grades, but I enjoyed scooping the loop with my friends and cranking Led Zeppelin on Friday and Sat. nights. And I sure as heck was not an All-State Musician, which they both are. I'm prouder than could be of my daughters, but at the same time, I keep thinking, "maybe I could have done better when I was younger. " Like they say, "If I would have known then what I know now, I would have paid attention in college."

So what do you think? Are your kids turning out better than you? And if the answer is "not sure," that's fine. Give me your honest take.

Oh, yes, it's so true. I have one daughter who already has her Master's Degree, and other who is in a Master's program at Ohio State, another one who competes on her college's Mock Trial team in order to learn about being an attorney, to which she aspires, and my youngest is in her first year of college studying to be a teacher and works part time with the public school system. I'm so proud of them.

They are all doing better than I did, studying hard and also working hard. I think some of it has to do with my role as their mother. They are all happy and healthy, living the lives they want, very independent.

I think life, in particular school life is harder for kids today. They are under a lot of pressure to get good grades and perform in advance classes. It's hard being a kid today, IMHO.

Yep, my daughter is way better than I ever was. My problem was I had a "rebel" spirit - I never did what I was told to do. But I do think that she has it a lot harder than I ever did in school. They expect so much out of the kids these days. Tons of homework and on weekends too. These kids need some down time or PE time - that has gone by the wayside as well.

My son is turning out better by leaps and bounds. His number one advantage: having my husband and myself as his parents! lol

Sounds egotistical, but the the truth is when it comes to parenting I just think "What would my mom and/or dad do in this situation?" and then do the opposite. :-)

In general they're turning out better, but I have to keep a close eye on my 16 year-old. She reminds me of some of the women in my family who were very naive when it comes to the men-folk and their flattering words (no offense Craig). Gotta keep her under my wing and keep giving her wisdom!

I believe each generation after us, should be better more equipped and ready to lead. It is our responsibility to ensure they are better and brighter than us. When they are your age they should be saying the same thing. You did what you were called to do enjoy it.
