On Walks
About six and a half years ago I was involved in a head on car smash not far from where I live.
At the time I was driving an old but beautifully restored Citroen BX - my pride and joy and the first car I had been able to buy for nearly 10 years - but no ABS. So I was left with an injury to my right pelvis, thru having my foot on the brake at the time of the impact. It was a pretty quick accident - I came around a bend to be confronted with another vehicle trying and failing to overtake an Articulated Lorry and the combined impact was judged to be in excess of 100 mph.Fortunately the car did what it was designed to do in such a case and crumpled up, absorbing most of the shock, but of course with my foot firmly on the brake pedal the impact was transferred through my leg to my pelvis - Ouch.
After much physio, acupuncture, shiatsu and Chinese massage, last year I began to be able to walk more than 500m or so without any pain.
These days I am able to walk up a mountain, but it takes a few days to recover, but my goal is to be able to return to my former level of fitness and be able to do one or two a day. By next Spring I hope to be able to start climbing gain. I have a desire to visit the Tien Shan Mountains in Khazakstan for my 50th next year.
I do have some photos of me on my hard drive from earlier this year when I judged I was fit enough to start exercising again, but I am really ashamed of them - I look dreadful! However when I look a bit better I will post them alongside some "Now" pictures for comparison ( Hey! not that I am vain or anything)
