This is such a great idea. I think this could be adapted to be used by kids...very creative. I'll have to share this with some of my clients, see if it helps them with their nutrition goals. Thanks Susana.

I had no idea about Mache. Why is it called Lambs lettuce? Should it be because lambs eat it? At Wikipedia, it is also called Corn Salad. Do you get this at the supermarket or produce store? Does it have same nutrients as lettuce? Just curious... ...

My favorite tea. I usually order the Lemon Myrtle and Ambrosia Yerba Mate from Aviva. Love it, don't even need to sweeten it but sometimes I add a little stevia. Cold or hot, I drink it everyday, several times a day.

Thanks Mark for your comments on my blogs as well. I used to be in the Marines and if nothing else I remember at least the drills that took place whenever anyone in the platoon screwed up... it was 1. side straddle hops (jacks), 2.push ups, 3. crunches or sit ups, jog in place, mountain climbers and back up to number one...

I guess today I can say that I was fortunate enough to have been caught talking, laughing or with improperly ironed uniforms because I use these drills in my class at the gym or at home with the kids--it's all fun for them.

Another good way to exercise at home is with a stability ball and a set of dumbbells. All you need is 20-30 minutes. And if you do the exercises circuit-style, the workout doubles as a strength/cardio workout.....I do this alot to save time.

I said I was going to increase my cardiovascular exercises to help burn more calories and fat, I should have known that the minute I decided to do something for me I would be challenged by kids with a cold, babies teething and not sleeping at night, and the itch to start organizing, decluttering, and falling behind on school work. WOW what a week. I missed both my bootcamp classes but I made it to spinning and weight training.

Since I could not make it to the gym I decided to turn my house work into my workout...It's a good thing the Samaritan House is coming to pick up some large items because they will be leaving with a truck full of other stuff. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I climbed by stairs today carrying stuff up and down. To top off my day I decided to mow the lawn for the first time this year. The day was great and I am pretty sure I caught up with my workout by now.

What a productive day this turned out to be.

Thanks...my nick name keeps me honest. I can't call myself a spin diva if i don't do it often enough.. :-)

I don't watch Ellen much anymore either. She is just so funny and clean, my kids love her too. I need to tape a few of her shows so I can catch up.

Thanks for the welcome note everyone.

About Me:
I am SpinDiva--yeah, its a title I gave myself because I love to spin and could go on for ever, except my students wouldn't appreciate that. I was born in the Dominican Republic, fluently speak English and Spanish. I'm AFAA certified fitness instructor and personal trainer, part time student at UMUC where I'm currently seeking a degree in Social Studies with a minor in Humanities.

We are a Military Family with 4 awesome kids (17,14,6,21 mo). Other then my job at the gym, I am a stay at home "traveling" mom! Seriously, I do more running around than staying home so the title is deceiving. I Love to spend time with family, learn, blog, exercise, garden, cook, read, have fun with friends, got to the beach to play not sunbathe (already have a natural tan), etc...

My favorite fitness activity is Spinning, followed by weight training. I am a work in progress, always on a journey to live a healthier lifestyle and teach my children to do the same. We appreciate nature, therefore, we do what we can to help protect our environment (recycling, planting trees, flowers, gardening, and buying organic, naturally grown foods.)

What are your goals?
1. Get my college degree in Social Studies/minor in Humanities (short term)--Masters degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology, minor in nutrition. (long term)

2. Personal goals: Gain more lean muscle mass, lose body fat. Tone upper body and abdominal muscles. Basically, get my pre-pregnancy body back. (short term)
Favorite Music:
Hip-Hop--music with energy! Spanish music such as salsa, merengue, Tango. I also like country, classical, classic rock, some jazz....there's so much out there. I really love singing along to Josh Groban, James Blunt and Michael Buble and many others.
Favorite TV Shows:
Ellen, Dr. Phil, Law and Order CI, CSI, FitTV and FoodNetwork. There are others but can't think of them at the moment.
What is your current exercise routine?
Monday/Friday= Total Body Conditioning (boot camp)
Tuesdays--I teach group strength (Muscle conditioning)
Thursdays- I take Group Strenth
Wednesdays- I teach Spinning
Saturday- Spinning

I have added running and yoga to my fitness routine as well.

The hundred push up challenge is on the way too, I'm on week two.
What diets have you tried?
Just about everything out there---from soups to pills to prepared foods--they all contributed to my desire to become more knowledgeable in the field of fitness and nutrition. Since then I have been certified as Group and Personal Fitness Trainer through AFAA. The only good thing that came from my fad diets.
What things do you want to do before you die?
See my grand children and all the happy things that happen between now and then (college, love, marriage, babies, careers, etc)

Visit many different countries--Italy is a possibility if my hubby's job gives us the OK (he's Navy)--once there I can visit many countries.

Receive culinary training from an expert - just for personal knowledge!

Own a small gym/spa in a small town where people want to exercise not check each other out-doesn't matter what country I'm in at the time.
What is your favorite book?
hmmmmm still thinking--I spend so much time reading text books, there's no time for anything else.

Quick workout if you can't make it to the gym--even the kids can join!

Today I went to gym to take a class we call TBC (total body condition), basically, it's a boot camp class which brings in weights, the stability ball, medicine ball, the track, a step and even the stairs. Unfortunately, I can't always attend this class as much as I would like to because it is a great energy boost at the beginning of my week and it puts me in my place as far as my physical abilities. Since I can't always make it to this class I have designed several mini-workouts I do at home and… Continue

Six weeks to get in shape…Really?!

This is about the time when many realize that their new year's resolution to get in shape has fallen off their to-do list. It seems other "more important" tasks have taken the place of that very special "me" time they worked so hard to carve out. Why now? Because they just looked at the calendar and counted the weekends left until Memorial Day Weekend, the big beach, pool, vacation weekend. This means getting into a nice bathing suit without wearing a coverall or getting into new summer clothes… Continue

Being a 'health nut' can be cool in the eyes of teens

I learned this past week that my 17 yo son's friends call me a health nut. At first I wasn't sure how to take that because I sort of heard him say it without much emotion or follow up comment. So later I decided to have this conversation so I could find out if it was said in a positive or negative tone.

My son, we'll call him Jteen, was discussing food with his friends, something he does frequently because he's always hungry. He's a growing teen with the metabolism fast enough to fuel a train.… Continue
