Best Time to Begin A New Habit

Best Time to Start a New Habit

Did you know that the best time to start a new habit or break a bad habit is when you move? A habit is a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition that has become nearly or completely involuntary. In other words, you do it without even thinking about it. When you change your surroundings you have a new canvas to work with and therefore, you can develop new behavior patterns.

Are you planning a move? Think of it as an opportunity to develop healthier habits… Continue

Emotional Eating Triggers

We use food to satisfy our feelings. Eating based on emotion can sabotage our efforts to lose weight.

Think about a time when you ate based on the following emotions:

2. Hopelessness
3. Out of control
4. Feeling Unappreciated
5. Boredom

Activity:

Keep a food journal and rank your hunger from 1-10. You will become aware of how often you eat and how hungry you feel. Getting to know your triggers will help combat your feelings associated with foods. In your food journal, write what you… Continue

Why Have I Stopped Losing Weight?

Hello,
I have been dieting and exercising for about 4 months and I’ve lost 15 lbs. I am 30 yrs old, 5′8″ and 162 lbs. In the last 3 weeks I have been exercising 6 days a week for about 30 minutes a day, either with boot camp-type interval training or an elliptical machine. I’m eating about 1200-1350 calories a day. The past 3 weeks my weight loss has slowed and I even gained a pound the first day of my period. What would cause me to gain weight?
I’ve had a weight problem since I was 13 or so and… Continue

Mother's Day - Don't Let It Sabotage Your Weight Loss Success

by Constance Brown-Riggs, RD, CDE

Much has been written about weight gain during the holiday season. Some experts say as much as 5 pounds can be gained between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. Setting Weight Loss Goals

A goal is your vision. It is what you desire; what you aim to achieve. Goals should be personal and meaningful. We can give you ideas and suggestions, but unless the goals feel right, it will be difficult for you to make a lasting commitment to them. Commitment is the key to success.

There are two types of goals: outcome goals, which are the "prize" for all your hard work, and behavior change goals, which are strategic plans you make to help you reach your outcome goal.
