When it comes to lowering cholesterol, it's common to drastically decrease fat intake. While it's important to reduce total fat, especially saturated and trans fats, if you limit heart healthy fats too much you can make it difficult to raise

Recently, some heavy hitters in health research and obesity prevention have stepped up support for a new form of sin tax that is gaining momentum toward a "Fat Tax" in which a levy of 1 cent per ounce would be added to soda's and soft drinks. This will lead to a 15-20% increase in the price of a bottle of coke, pepsi or other soda's. Will it help stem the obesity epidemic or save money on health care?

Heart healthy tips can be quite simple!
1. Use olive oil to prepare your meals.
Olive oil contains monounsaturated fat, which helps reduce LDL cholesterol. To receive the highest level of antioxidant benefits, select "extra-virgin" and "virgin" olive oils, the least processed forms. When you see the term “light” on olive oil labels, it indicates a reduced olive flavor.
Simple ways to use more olive oil:

A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that most American’s know they need to avoid trans fats, but only 20% actually knew which foods contained trans fats.
Trans fat is a processed fat, produced as a by-product when hydrogen is added to make a substance more solid at room temperature. For example, margarine is hydrogenated vegetable oil – hydrogen was added and the by-product trans fat is produced. Although, it should be noted that many margarines have chan…

What makes you fat?
Simply put we eat more calories than we burn off in a day’s time. Take for instances a person that drives a truck for a living and has to unload and load all day long. Now even though they may not get to the gym daily the amount of energy they are burning is probably off setting what they are eating, unless they are eating a slab of ribs at every stop lol.
Now take a person that sits all day at their job in a call center, talking to people all day long. While it does take e…

However, while dietary cholesterol can impact cholesterol levels within the body, saturated fat actually has a greater impact on LDL cholesterol levels.
A 1999 study found little impact of consuming one egg daily on blood cholesterol levels. It’s currently recommended, for individuals with normal cholest…

I enjoy the show The Biggest Loser. On one of the episodes this season they had an individual from Prevention magazine share some tips based on the "Flat Belly" diet. I was very excited because it sounded like a link had been found between the Mediterranean diet and reduced abdominal obesity. Hence, the reason for this article!
The Mediterranean diet contains an increased level of monounsaturated fat compared to the typical American diet. Monounsaturated fat is a type of heart healthy unsaturat…
