Metroknow The organic experiment begins at Almost Fit

Today's post on Almost Fit is an introduction to my family's new experiment: We've started our own organic garden. It's been a project that we've wanted to try for some time now, so this year we finally made it happen. My reasons for this are important: a) we'll eat better, and within a budget, b) we're imparting a… Continue

Metroknow How to make a good impression as an Author

I posted a new article on Almost Fit today that includes a few resources on identifying what "Real Food" is these days. It can be quite confusing with all of the bait-and-switch labeling that goes on particularly with large industrial food producers, so I'm sharing the resources… Continue

Metroknow Portion sizing part 2 - its been a long (but good) week

I posted the second part in the series, "Retrain Yourself on Food Portion Sizes" last night on Almost Fit (technically this morning) at around 1:30AM or so - its been a long week. My time has been stretched thinner than usual, particularly since we have a 3-1/2 year-old (pictured) with Chickenpox at home (I work at home). He's had his first inoculation (at 1 yr.), so his symptoms were reasonably minor - no… Continue

Lisa Newton How Blogs and Blogging can make you Healthier

According to a New York Times article, In the Web World of 24/7 Stress, Writers Blog Till They Drop, blogging and the stress caused by the necessity of being the first writer to scoop an article, may be too much for some bloggers.

“A growing work

Metroknow My daughter needs more cupcakes!

This is a recent photo of my daughter, Rima, which I used in this morning's post on AlmostFit (18 perfect excuses to avoid buying good food). She just turned one, and even if you can't tell from this shot, she LOVES cupcakes. However, it turns out that she needs to be eating a few more of them.

On a recent visi

Metroknow AlmostFit: Did Cereal make me Fat?

I posted a new article on AlmostFit last night discussing how advertising that targets children affected me first hand. Its a sensitive subject to some, particularly because it raises questions of free speech and the free market economy. It's not a political article (at least that's my opinion), but it does touch on legislation

Metroknow Do you have a "gorge" reflex?

For lunch today, I cooked up a quick meal: grilled young zucchini stuffed with goat cheese (if you saw my goat cheese stuffed mushrooms recipe from last Friday, you might understand that I've got some goat cheese that I'm trying to use up ;) ), topped with a small amount of high-quality bacon (meaning naturally lean because it came from a farm that doesn't use things like sugar

Metroknow Real Food in Moderation results: 16 lbs in 2 months!

I'll be writing the details in an article for Monday on my primary blog, but I thought I'd share some positivity with the great IowaAvenue folks I've interacted with so far. I was really excited this morning when I got on the scale to evaluate whether this whole, "Real Food in Mode
