The latest

Well... I have been up to ... well.. nothing! I was training for an Ironman race up until mid- march when I realized my support system was eternally flawed...and there was nothing I could do about it. As a single parent of a very busy preschooler... support is/was essential. Thus I sent a withdrawal notice in for the race which will be in mid June. I hated to do it ... but... I'd rather have a DNS (did not start/show) classification than a DNF (Did not finish) on the record books. So.. I've been… Continue

Desiree Fickers Pumpkin Muffin Recipe! courtesy of a post by blogger swimbikerunguy

Here's the scoop: They're supposed to be gluten free, but that sounds bad. 1 & 3/4 Cups Flour (I've used white and whole wheat - both work fine) 1 & 1/4 Cups Sugar (I can cut about 1/4 cup out if you use apple sauce or something else - molasses.. splenda works too) 1 TBSP Baking powder 1/4 TSP salt (I think it needs a little more) 1 TSP Cinnamon (you can never have too much) 1/2 TSP Nutmeg 1/2 TSP Ginger 1/4 TSP Allspice 1/8 TSP Cloves (can add more to taste) - Mix all that to… Continue

Checking in with the latest... + 1500 cals a day isn't that bad!

So it's a typical Tuesday. Sitting here at work answering calls...drilling out sw quotes...etc. blah. Work continues to be a source of stress due to new customer database implementations, hiring, firings, and half of the staff out on vacation. Everyone is schmoozing reps that share their territories to save their own ass... and I'm so NOT in the mood for any of this. Funny how people sabotage you at work day in and day out... and suddenly at the last week/days of the month they suddenly expect y… Continue

Laying Ground Work

Happy 4th of July! Yesterday I registered for my first FULL marathon. That's 26.2 miles kids. We finally have a local race in Raleigh, NC again, after many years without a marathon...(2007 was the actual revival of the race) something about lack of corporate sponsors or something as to why it vanished. Odd since so many major co's are headquartered in this area as of the last decade. Anyways... the race isn't until 11/2/08 so I have 16 wks to prepare. I'm stoked... plus some of the route… Continue

nothing new

Work and motherhood took over any waking time (and sometimes sleeping time too!) I had this week... thus I haven't done much in the realm of training or blogging... however the weekend holds potential to take care of personal business. :) I got an email from Rudy Project yesterday via the IM distribution list... which advertised sponsorship opportunities for individuals or teams in Tri or running. Hmmmmmm :) So... I replied. I'm not some phenomenal participant garnering awards .... but why not s… Continue

Well, the jury has returned with a verdict

I am in. Ironman Coeur D'Alene 2009 - registered !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh. After about 25 refreshes of the active.com site, I was finally able to view the race registration page (apparently the site was bombarded at the time of release at 3:00pm EST/Noon PST) Inside sources say that the site was deliberately limited.... ? Why I"m unsure... they're pretty much guaranteed a rush.. it is IM afterall.... and one of a few qualifying races for Kona. Anyways... I even got to… Continue

Today I wrestle ... with a decision

So... to register or not... as in register for Ironman Coeur D'Alene 2009? This is today's decision with which I'm grappling. I've always wanted to participate in and complete an Ironman race...since I began watching the event broadcasts on Saturday afternoons on NBC, in the early 80's, wayyyyy back when, in my Indiana living room. Year after year I watched Paula Newby Fraser and others, kicking butt. I'd never really seen women work THAT hard in sports before. And those wh… Continue

What are you doing?

I totally understand for some people is not easy to give up meat... but eating less is a healthy approach for your body and the environment. I haven't seen Food Inc. yet because I am very apprehensive about animal slaughter... but I am about to g...

Congratulations to both of you! I don't know what the "best" answer is for everybody, but I think it's definitely a good idea to eat less red meat and pork. As far as totally going Vegetarian, I think that could be easier for some more than other...
