Iowa Avenue

I was a very good girl this week. I did my exercises and stuck to my diet with no cheating or slacking off. As a result of being such a good girl my scale went below 160 pounds for the first time since being pregnant with Benjamin. (My four year old.) This was one of my first big goals, and it's exciting to be here!

An added bonus was that a lady where I work, at mall playland (I can even bring my kids), commented today that chasing after my kids must be what keeps me so slim.

Ahhhh... Music to my ears. You want to know how to make someone's day? Casually slip the word slim into a conversation with a stranger like it's nothing they don't hear all the time. (Don't worry though, I'm not letting this all go to my head. I currently have no plans to buy super tight low rise jeans and a belly shirt, so you can all stop picturing me strutting around town with rolls of fat hanging out for all the world to see saying to myself, "I'm slim and smokin' hot in this outfit!" I realize she was an older lady, and that older ladies tend to say things like that to us young moms to cheer us up, and I know I still have a ways to go, but it still felt gooooooooooooood.)

My mom will be terrified to hear this next bit of news: My pants are getting even looser than they were the last time we went shopping and I still have no intentions of buying new ones. Maybe a belt would be a good idea though....

Since I have been such a good girl this week I have big chip and chocolate plans for my day off tomorrow. I'm so jazzed. And I won't even have to feel guilty because "I'm a good girl, I am!"

I'm all for what works for you. I love junk food, too, and like you, have managed to eat it within moderation. Just saying no have never worked for me, so like you, I find a balance that works for me.

As for "do a little dance" and "make a little love?" Well, besides being totally enjoyable, they're great forms of exercise.........................:)

If I had to tell myself that food rewards were completely off-limits, there is NO WAY I would care enough about losing this weight to do it. I just don't care enough about 30 pounds to take away one of the things I enjoy most in life. Sorry, but it's a fact. I'd rather be overweight then. (I know, it's tragic, but it's the truth.) The key, for me, is finding a better balance than I have had in the past. I love junkfood, and that's never going to change. What I can change is how often I eat it. The weekends are my happy time, and knowing that I only have to make it through five days is so much better than trying to cut out food rewards completely. Plus knowing I had the will-power to be good during the week means those chips will taste even better. I'm not talking about a binge here, just a treat.

During the week, the non-food rewards work well for me when I am right on the edge though. Manicures don't do it for me, since I am pretty low-maintenance, but a new book might be enough to pull me through a rough day... :)

I'm so happy for you.................you met a milestone. Small goals lead to big results and a non-scale victory like your pants getting looser is a good feeling, too.

I wrote a blog post this week about rewards for yourself that are food related.
So, next time, maybe a manicure will be on your list....................:)
