Iowa Avenue

In 2005, there were 2,448,017 deaths in the United States. Of those deaths, 652,091 (27%) were from heart disease, 559,312 (23%) from cancer, 143,579 (6%) from stroke (cerebrovascular diseases), and 75,119 (3%) from diabetes (according to CDC Statistics).

I would be stupid to say that ALL of these deaths were preventable through healthy lifestyle habits. They certainly weren't. But could SOME of these deaths have been prevented through healthy habits and healthy lifestyles? Probably.

The purpose of this blog is not to help you get "skinny fast" or help you get "rock hard abs." I'm not saying those are bad things, but I am more concerned with teaching/motivating you to make healthy lifestyle changes in your life.

No one is forcing you to make the changes. I'm only here to encourage, support, and hopefully educate. If you don't care about your health, that's on you. I feel bad for you, but it's your choice. My guess is if you are reading this you do care.

Making healthy lifestyle changes is a challenge. There's no question about that. But is it worth it if we, or those we love, can reduce our risk of dying from heart disease, some types of cancer, stroke or diabetes? I think so.

So now you know why I blog about health. I'll continue to write and I hope you continue to read.

Good article. You captured the idea of preventing disease, which I think is often forgotten. Many people look for a quick fix when they already have a health issue, but preventing it before it starts isn't very popular.

That's what I thought--@ 28 weeks sounds like it may be a tough choice for women to "break" the cycle, though. Thanks for posting this very important information which, I'm sure, will benefit women for something to be aware of.

yes, of course, we don't know what causes gestational diabetes, but we have some clues. The placenta supports the baby as it grows. Hormones from the placenta help the baby develop. But these hormones also block the action of the mother's insulin in…

Interesting. Isn't it fairly typical for most pregnant women to gain weight anyway though?
