Well... I have been up to ... well.. nothing! I was training for an Ironman race up until mid- march when I realized my support system was eternally flawed...and there was nothing I could do about it. As a single parent of a very busy preschooler... support is/was essential. Thus I sent a withdrawal notice in for the race which will be in mid June. I hated to do it ... but... I'd rather have a DNS (did not start/show) classification than a DNF (Did not finish) on the record books. So.. I've been having a pity party for about 2 mos. now... and put some of the weight back on that I worked so hard to lose the past year... which really sucks. I miss my gym, chatting with my gym friends, and the post workout energy surge that comes the day after... what I like to refer to as my energy bank acct.
However.. I've picked up a copy of Tosca Reno's clean eating /cooking for families .... and although I already know about 70% of the health facts in the book... I'm picking up new info and reasons to eat healthy and clean again. I don't care to digress any further. As of the past week.. my son was very ill (now recovering) ....and diagnosed with Kawaski's Disease. It has been shocking and scary, since he has always been so very healthy in his 3 1/2 yrs. Luckily it was caught and treated early, so the disease did not get the chance to negatively affect his heart, arteries, or lymph system. I am so relieved and grateful that his outlook is good. Maybe the fall through of my IM training was a blessing in disguise? If I had continued on the training track for Ironman when this struck... well.... it would have wrecked the training plan anyway and it would have been too late for me to recover any of the hefty registration fees.... I would have also been exhausted from the extensive training build. Luckily with having been a complete lazy *** the past 6 wks or so.... I had stored energy in order to handle this crisis and be there around the clock for him at the hospital this past week. If I'd been training and had to throw the brakes on... I think I'd of "cracked" this week at the hospital- mentally and physically. I guess God does work in mysterious ways. On the bright side of recent developments... I have gained a charitable cause to train and fundraise for in the future out of this experience. I've always wanted to back a particular charity in racing, but have always felt (in the back of my mind) that I might put the pedal to the metal more if it was a cause which "hit home". So... now I have one....strange. Not that I wanted to acquire a cause in this manner. Everything happens for a reason... maybe I will reach out to educate someone about Kawasaki's Disease that needs to know.. and save a life, etc.
